I'm doing the "Home Coming" Laundry, the filthy load that returns about every 2 weeks. Just sorting with regard for funk levels, noticing what smells. Cleaning the pocket debris, about the only FUN that can be had in this chore. A coin here, a dollar there, some receipts for lunches and drinks. I think they forget these pockets tell stories later. Then I find a pair of thongs, pretty common but there's a tale there and it tickles me to know there's more to life away from home than just those drink receipts. Not sure what to do with them exactly so I lay them aside and continue sorting with a now giggled brain considering the why of a pair of thongs stuffed into his pockets? And then of course as I woman would - WONDERS IF SHE MISSED THEM? Probably not - one of many I am sure. Sorting continues and the level of funk is now almost comfortable not quite the offense it was upon arrival. That smell that's HIM and that He's HOME. More pockets and more THONGS? I wonder to myself, he must have been in quite the rush. I have never before found anything like this in his laundry. Now the socks and towels, those - those have had evidence. Naturally. I just sort, wash and replace. These though have me looking a bit closer. Though more generic than the last common thongs, these do seem familiar. They feel familiar even. Then I see the Socks and my disposition shifts to "SOCK MODE" while Natural and super common, I do have to STEEL myself for their handling and try to save them for last. The bundled wad just waiting to be unbundled. One sock out of the other sock, not TOO bad actually. But, there's still a WAD of something in this other. My steady but somewhat tentative hand withdraws - another PAIR of panties. Only these, not THONGS. Plain, beige, full back underwear. AND MINE. A favorite pair. Comfortable. Perfectly broken in. The kind you miss when they're gone, even if you don't realize it right away.

I've been missing them.

And suddenly I know.
Not just about these - but about the others too.

The realization doesn't scare me, doesn't upset me. It has me curious and thoughtful.
